15 things your stylist wont tell you

Just came across this on the Internet and had to share :)

1. I'm a beautician, not a magician. I can give you Gisele Bündchen's haircut, but I can't give you her face.

2. Come at least five minutes early. If you're running late, please call ahead. Show me some basic respect. This is a business, not fun and games.

3. Don't ask me to "squeeze" you in when I'm already booked. I'd be taking time and effort away from other clients. You wouldn't like being treated that way.

4. Hairdresser school does not teach about counter transference, projection, negative reinforcement, or personality disorders. If you're looking for a therapist, all I have is a tail comb and an opinion.

5. Some women think that if they keep their hair all one length the way it was in high school, everyone will think they're still in high school. Guess what? You're not. As you get older, you need to soften the lines around your face. Layers are the magic remedy.

6. A trim is not "just" a trim. It requires my expertise, skill, knowledge, and time. Would you say to your dentist, "It's just a tooth," or to your doctor, "It's just a leg"?

7. If you want to buy a bottle of color and do your own hair to save a buck, you can live with the consequences.

8. Some clients will say, "Cut my hair just like you did last time." That always baffles me. The average time between appointments is six to eight weeks. I have hundreds of clients. How am I supposed to remember exactly how I did your hair the last time? If you want a carbon copy of a cut and style you loved, take a picture and show me.

9. Why do you think a child's haircut should cost less than yours? Kids don't sit still. Kids kick. It's an intense experience.

10. When a client says she's in a rush, I tell her she needs to schedule her time better. My work takes time.

11. If you cancel at the very last minute, that's lost money to me because I can't fill that appointment with little or no notice

12. Do not attempt hairstylist-speak. Do you really know what "thinning" or "graduation" mean? Leave the terminology to the professionals.

13. If you want a new cut or style, I'll work hard to make you happy and I'll want you to like it. After you leave my salon, I'll worry about what you think. (I work on people, not on cars on an assembly line.) And if you feel like calling to tell me how happy you are with my work, you will make me smile.

14. For stylists, tips should be 15 to 20 percent of the total cost of your bill. They are a significant portion of my pay. If you stiff me, I'll remember. And yes, salon owners who style hair do appreciate tips and want them.


15. I need to charge you for my time, no matter what you're having done. I am a trained professional.

Sunshine

Yesterday we took advantage of the wonderful 70 degree weather we had and took the kids to the park. It was so nice to get out and enjoy the sunshine.

It's been so nice having the time off to spend as a family. Our leave ends in 10 days and it's back to work for both Matt and I. Hopefully soon Ian will figure out his days from nights he usually is up for a good 3-4 hours straight at night and soon I'll be on night shift all alone. Livi slept through the night at 5 weeks and I don't think we'll get that lucky this time around.

Pee pee in the potty

Livi peed on the potty tonight! Woo Hoo I am so proud! Last night we brought her potty out and she sat on it for a while but wasn't to thrilled about it. This evening she asked if she could sit on her potty. Matt and I got her set up in the living room with her princess potty. Her fave cartoon, some milk and a little bowl of M&M's after an hour of her sitting there I heard the 'royal music' from her potty announcing she had peed. I jumped off the couch and started screaming and applauding her. I think I actually scared Livi she looked panicked when I wrapped her in my arms, but I was so thrilled with her! Hopefully this is the beginning of no more diapers.

2 weeks old

Can't believe my little guy is already 2 weeks old. The last three days have been difficult around here. On Wednesday afternoon Livi came down with yet another cold. Sneezing, runny nose, coughing (great just realized my nose is starting to run great just what mommy needs) so we've been trying our best to keep her away from her brother. Matt and I are constantly washing our hands and using tons of hand sanitizer before touching Ian. We're both hoping he doesn't catch it, but I have a feeling he will. So on top of Livi's cold, Ian has a clogged tear duct. I called his pediatrician yesterday and they told me to apply warm compresses to his eyes when they get goopy and to massage from the bridge of his nose to the corner of his eye to help get rid of the clog. I was told to call back if he had any yellow goobers. Wake up this morning whole eye crusted shut with thick yellow goo. Called his pediatrician wanted me to bring him in this afternoon to get checked out. Looks like he has a little infection in his eye, which they said was common. So for the next 5 days we have to apply ointment to his eye 3 times daily. Hopefully it will all clear up for him soon. I ran to Target while we waited for his prescription to be filled because a co-worker told me about an awesome deal on formula. I am so proud of my formula score at Target. I got 16 cans of formula for $80. We spend $13.50 on one can and that lasts us a week. Ian is set for a couple months. I bought out everything they had left. It was $9.98 for a 2 can pack. I think they were getting rid of what was left over from their bulk item sale a few months back. I checked all the expiration dates and it's good until 2012. I was so stoked about it the deal and it's going to save us a lot of money in the long run.

10 day check up

Life has been busy busy around here for the last ten days. Last night was probably the most difficult since we've been home. Plus the time change didn't help with Livi's sleep schedule much. Needless to say we were all awake until after 2 am. I ended up crashing on the couch, Matt was up playing a game on his X-box, Ian wouldn't sleep without his pacifier and would wake up every five minutes when it fell out of his mouth. Livi ended up sneaking out of her room around 5 am and fell asleep with me. I woke up at 9 am and laughed all four of us (five including the dog) we're passed out on our couch. Wish I had a photo :)

Gidian had his 10 day check up this afternoon and he got circumcised. Matt and I both decided to stay in the room while our pediatrician did the procedure. I hardly looked but my skin began to crawl when I heard them snipping at my poor little guys skin ugh... I think the whole experience was worse on me then on Ian. He got a clean bill of health and we bring him back next month when he's a month old. Right now he's eating about every 2-3 hours 3 oz of formula at a time. At night he'll go longer 4-5 hour spans (not last night it was every 2 hours) which is nice for us to get a little sleep.

Alivia is still adjusting to having her brother here. She's definitely jealous and it breaks my heart. When ever I'm feeding the little guy she wants me to get up and get her something to eat or drink and when I'm holding him she wants to snuggle with me. She's throwing extreme temper tantrums, which she never did before. Hopefully this stage wont last long for her. Yesterday Livi and I left the boys at home so we could do some shopping. I let her pick out a package of big girl panties since we plan on trying to potty train her in the near future.

Well both kiddos are napping and I think I should try to take a little nap as well.
